Consulting and Speaking

One of the best ways to advocate for ending stigma and opening the conversation around mental health is through public speaking.  As such, Jeff has developed several presentations catering to a range of populations including: corporations, universities and high schools, behavioral health organizations, treatment centers, and city and state initiatives.

Some of the highlighted topics include: mental health education, mental health in the workplace, ending stigma, starting the conversation, whole-person health, alternative therapy, navigating complex mental health systems, and a personal favorite, the benefits of pets for one's mental health.  

Each presentation is designed to fit the needs of the organization, whether they are a corporation looking to increase mental health awareness and encourage open dialogue, or a behavioral health agency interested in how animals may integrate into their current programming. Jeff's goal is to spread awareness near and far, and frequently travels with Earl to share his message.

It's not easy to start the conversation, but add a sweet, fluffy, golden-retriever to the mix, people start to open up...

One of the biggest challenges to addressing mental health is engaging people in difficult conversations. Often companies will bring in specific mental health professionals to speak from a scientific background but often their message may be confusing and lacks the ability to connect with people on an emotional level.

Often, it takes someone with lived experience to engage an audience in a relatable way. With over 20 years of experience with mental health challenges, I’m able to share in a way that reaches audiences on a personal level while at the same time not overwhelming them. I utilize parts of my story to connect with audiences in ways that naturally help them reflect on their own lives and relationships which in turn can create change and a deeper understanding of themselves, families, and their peers. In addition, we utilize people’s love of their pets as a way to open up these tough conversations. So many people can relate to the bond they have with their pets and that opens the door to educate about a variety of topics related to mental health.
